PVL entrusted to lead selection and training of women's national team

In a groundbreaking move, the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) has entrusted the Premiere Volleyball League (PVL) with the pivotal task of selecting, training, and managing the women’s national team for global competitions, beginning with the upcoming Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Challenge Cup for Women hosted by the Philippines later this month.

The decision was reached during the PNVF board meeting on April 12 at Seda Nuvali, coinciding with the FIVB Beach Pro Tour in Santa Rosa City.

PNVF president Ramon “Tats” Suzara hailed it as a watershed moment, expressing confidence in the PVL's ability to craft the strongest women’s national team to date.

Notably, two key figures on the PNVF board—Vice President Ricky Palou and National Team Commission Head Tonyboy Liao—also hold leadership roles in Sports Vision, the entity overseeing the PVL.

Leading the charge for the women’s national team is Brazilian coach Jorge Edson de Brito, designated by the FIVB to guide Philippines' volleyball aspirations.

The AVC Challenge Cup for Women, slated from May 22 to 29 at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum, promises a fierce showdown as the Philippine contingent faces off against formidable teams from Kazakhstan, Iran, Chinese Taipei, Vietnam, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, and India.

Furthermore, in a strategic partnership, the PNVF has aligned with Cignal TV of the MVP Group as the official partner for the men’s national team. This collaboration sets the stage for the Philippines' participation in the prestigious 32-team FIVB Men’s World Championship 2025, a momentous event the country will host solo in September next year.
