Valdez on BaliPure: 'We can't really define any team by the score'

ILOCOS NORTE -- Alyssa Valdez stressed BaliPure should not be defined with its lowest scoring output in Premier Volleyball League history.

Valdez and the Cool Smashers held the Purest Water Defenders to the lowest score in a set and earned their fifth straight victory with a 25-12, 25-3, 25-15 rout on Wednesday at the PCV Socio-Civic and Cultural Center here in Bacarra.

It was the worst scoring output in a set in league history but the three-time PVL MVP stressed it should not define BaliPure.

"I think we can't really define any team by the score so siyempre babalik at babalik yung BaliPure for sure," said Valdez, who scored 16 points.

"Sa amin naman, it's going to be a confidence booster for us for the next few games."

The Water Defenders were not able to deliver a spike in the second set as they got their three points from Alina Bicar's ace, a service error from Jia Morado, and a block from Sati Espiritu.

Valdez didn't expect the lopsided second set as they just followed their game plan against the upset-conscious BaliPure, who upset Chery Tiggo last week and Cignal on Sunday.

"Ako kasi yung nagse-serve that time. So one thing na sinasabi sakin ni coach is kailangan kong mag-target and ipasok kasi Jema (Galanza) and Jia (Morado) naman can make plays in front and puwede ring mag backrow," Valdez said. "Kasi malakas din talaga yung opensa nila so we're ready kahit ano ring gawin nung kalaban and we really can't count them out talaga every time so yung focus talaga namin in today's game siguro more than a hundred-percent."

Creamline now has the two most lopsided set wins in PVL history including their dominant performance against Chef's Classics, which they held to five points in a set last Aug. 18, 2019, and eventually swept the 20-game Open Conference.

Creamline stretched its winning streak to 25 games.

The Cool Smashers have moved on from their dominant victory and shift their focus against the Jaja Santiago-led Chery Tiggo (3-2) on Friday.

"Siguro balik muna kami sa training kasi talagang inuna muna namin yung BaliPure. Step by step muna," said Creamline assistant coach Sherwin Meneses. "Alam naman natin talagang contender sila kahit natalo sila kanina. Yung roster nila talagang maganda."
