Leila Cruz, freshly minted as the No. 2 pick by Capital1 in the inaugural Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Draft, finds herself at the cusp of a new volleyball journey under the mentorship of veteran coach Roger Gorayeb.
Transitioning from the tutelage of Ramil de Jesus at La Salle to now partnering with Gorayeb at Capital1's Solar Spikers, Cruz eagerly anticipates the growth and challenges that lie ahead.
“Super nakakatuwa na mahandle nilang dalawa kasi we all know naman na parehas silang veteran sa larangan ng volleyball,” Cruz shared with reporters during the PVL Draft ceremony at Novotel Manila Araneta City.
Cruz brings with her a wealth of experience, having clinched a UAAP championship under De Jesus during her illustrious three-year tenure with the Lady Spikers in Season 85.
Now, as Capital1's top draft pick in PVL history, she aims to make a significant impact on the team's fortunes, especially after Capital1's challenging performance with just one win in 11 games during the previous All-Filipino conference.
“I’ll try my best talaga to bring justice doon sa top two pick na binigay nila to me and I will do everything na makakaya ko para mabigyan ng mas better finish this season ang Capital1,”Cruz affirmed, highlighting her determination to elevate the team's standing in the league.
Teaming up with stellar talents like Heather Guino-O, Cathrina Dizon, Janeca Lana, and Russian import Marina Tushova, Cruz is poised to make her mark in the upcoming PVL Reinforced Conference set to commence on July 16.
