Capital1 names Jorge Souza de Brito as head coach ahead of PVL Draft

A new era is dawning for Capital1 in the Premier Volleyball League.

Just days before making the highly anticipated first overall pick in the 2025 PVL Rookie Draft this Sunday, June 8, the Solar Spikers announced a major shake-up at the helm—naming seasoned Brazilian tactician Jorge Souza de Brito as their new head coach for the upcoming season.

De Brito, who currently steers the national women’s volleyball program as head coach of Alas Pilipinas, returns to the PVL after a year-long stint with Akari in 2023.

Veteran mentor Roger Gorayeb, who spent three conferences with the team, will remain with the franchise in a new capacity as team consultant.

Gorayeb helped guide Capital1 through their maiden run, culminating in a seventh-place finish in the 2024 Reinforced Conference.

However, the team struggled to maintain form in the All-Filipino Conference, finishing 11th overall.

The hiring of De Brito marks a turning point for the Solar Spikers, who are now banking on the Brazilian coach's international pedigree and recent success with Alas Pilipinas to usher in a culture of growth and competitiveness.

All eyes now turn to the 2025 PVL Rookie Draft, where Capital1 holds the coveted No. 1 overall pick.

With De Brito at the helm and the first crack at the country’s top amateur talent, the Solar Spikers have a prime opportunity to fast-track their rebuild and make a serious splash next season.
